NAVTEX SAILOR 6390 installation and survey: antenna, area, documents

Antenna: the main thing - away from the transmitters

The NAVTEX receiver operates on medium and short wavelengths – 490, 518 and 4,209.5 kHz – and its antenna needs a point away from the ship’s transmitting antennas. The transmitting antenna next to the receiver is interference at the frequencies where the warnings come in. Antenna is included SAILOR 6390For a specific mast, we will prompt the installation point when ordering.

The NAVTEX SAILOR 6390 receiver and control panel are an illustration of the equipment on the cover of the manual.

Receiver and panel

The SAILOR 6390 receiver is placed at the navigation post, the SAILOR 6004 control panel is placed in the wheelhouse: the touch screen of 7 inches can be read both in the sun and in the dark. The panel is the workplace of the NAVTEX watch: messages are received automatically and stored (up to 2000 on each frequency), the watch remains to read.

Integration with the marine system

According to NMEA0183, the receiver is connected to the integrated navigation system of the vessel, and through the LAN connector, messages can be displayed to other workplaces. Data lines are laid during installation, and not after - it is much more difficult to pull the cable over the finished vessel.

Reception area is set at input

NAVTEX is a district service: each station transmits alerts in its own district. The receiving area is specified when the receiver is put into operation - the instruction and the order of setting are transmitted with the set. When changing the swimming area, the setting is updated.

Examination: Documents are decided

For vessels that fall under the requirements for equipment, NAVTEX-receiver is mandatory, and during the examination look not only the device itself, but also its documents. The SAILOR 6390 kit comes with RKO and RMRS certificates – the equipment will not be accepted without certificates, so the vessel register is called even when ordering.

What to check after installation

  • reception on all three frequencies: 490, 518 and 4,209.5 kHz;
  • absence of interference from marine transmitting antennas at the receiving frequency;
  • correctly defined area of reception;
  • Messages to the panel and NMEA0183 to the navigation system
  • Certificates in marine documents.

If the ship has a previous receiver, read the technical guide Replacement of the old NAVTEX receiver with SAILOR 6390and kit contents in detail - in the article SAILOR 6390: Technical Guide of the Kit.

NAVTEX kit and work for a specific vessel

For installation of SAILOR 6390 on a ship with a parking lot in Kandalaksha, attach information about the previous receiver, the placement of the antenna and the equipment of the working post. If the kit is transferred through Murmansk, separate delivery from installation and approval of documents. The area of work in the White and Barents Seas is included in the initial data of the vessel; it does not replace the connection scheme and the list of stored parts. quotation should show the composition, the performer of work and the result of acceptance, and not only the date of receipt of the box with the receiver.
