Replacement of the old NAVTEX receiver with SAILOR 6390: what to check

When the receiver is changed

Typical reasons for replacing the NAVTEX receiver: the equipment has failed, the model has been discontinued and there is no support for it, or a prescription has been issued during the examination. For ships that fall under the requirements for equipment, the receiver of navigation warnings is mandatory – “temporarily without it” does not happen, the replacement is a matter of flight timing.

What's the new kit doing?

SAILOR 6390 - a new generation receiver: all three international frequencies (518 kHz international channel, 490 kHz national, 4 209.5 kHz short-wave for distant areas), memory of up to 2000 messages on each frequency, integration with the integrated navigation system on NMEA0183 and LAN-connector for displaying messages to other workplaces.

The panel instead of the old display

The SAILOR 6004 touchpad with a diagonal of 7 inches is included in the delivery: it is installed in the wheelhouse and can be read in the sun and in the dark. If the previous receiver had a separate display or printer, when replacing, think about the place of the panel on the console - it is the workplace for NAVTEX.

Antenna: inspect the track

The antenna is included in the set, but when replacing, the old antenna point is also inspected: the receiving antenna needs a place away from the transmitting antennas, otherwise there will be interference with reception. If the old antenna was successful, the new one is put in the same place; if the reception was always with interference, the point is reviewed by mast.

Data: Connection to the navigation system

The NMEA0183 line is reconnected from the previous receiver to the new one, which is how messages continue to flow into the integrated navigation system. The network LAN connector allows you to additionally display messages to other workplaces, if necessary.

Documents and introduction

The kit comes with RKO and RMRS certificates - when ordering, tell us under which register the vessel is inspected. The area of reception is specified at commissioning: the instruction and the order of setting are transmitted with the kit. Details - in the article NAVTEX SAILOR 6390 installation and inspection and in the technical guide of the set itself «SAILOR 6390: technical guide».

Replacement of NAVTEX with a specific parking lot

For a repair vessel in Murmansk, divide getting SAILOR 6390 and working on the bridge: who accepts the equipment, which nodes are saved and who confirms the connection. If further work is planned in the Barents Sea, include the area and requirements of the vessel in the specification separately from the delivery address. To transfer the set in Severomorsk useful information about the old receiver, antenna, panel and data lines. In the quotation, record the actual composition, documents and agreed window of work; the date of shipment does not in itself mean the installation is ready for operation.
